Novel band-engineering BixM1-xVO4(M=Y, etc.) solid solution photocatalysts for hydrogen production under visible light

Introduction Nowadays, world is facing a series of environmental problems such as greenhouse effect, acid rain and photochemical pollution. Those problems mainly come from the production and usage of fossil energy resources. New clean and sustainable energy system therefore is necessary to replace fossil energy to solve such problems. Photocatalytic H2 production by using solar energy was one of the best choices to convert solar energy to hydrogen energy. In this study, we developed Bi1-xMxVO4 (M=Y, etc.) mixed oxide photocatalyst for producing H2 and O2 simultaneously from water under UV irradiation and from sacrificial reagents under visible light.
