Physicochemical Properties of Ru-based Catalysts and Their Catalytic Performance in Glycerol Hydrogenolysis

Introduction The development of the down-stream products of glycerol, which is a co-product in the bio-diesel production process, is important for green chemistry and the utilization of biomass resources, and has recently attracted much attention. Glycerol can be catalytically converted to propanediols and ethylene glycol, which are important and high added-value chemicals. Ru-based catalysts showed an effective performance in glycerol hydrogenolysis. This paper studied the physicochemical properties (such as structure, acid and redox properties) of Ru and Ru-Re catalysts and their catalytic performance in glycerol hydrogenolysis.
