N2O DECOMPOSITION OVER FE-FER: A M(O)SSBAUER STUDY OF THE ACTIVE SITES

Introduction Decomposition of nitrous oxide is highly important process due to its environmental impact 1. Recently, it was shown that iron ferrierite with low iron content (Fe/Al molar ratio < 0.15) possess higher catalytic activity in N2O decomposition in the absence of NO than other zeolites (e.g. Fe-MFI, Fe-BEA) 2. The determination of the nature of various iron species present in Fe-FER is crucial to estimate the structure-activity relationships in catalytic redox processes. The aim of this work was to determine the M(o)sbauer parameters of Fe species in iron ferrierite and to examine their behavior under various catalytically relevant redox treatments. That could be a base for the detailed analysis of the nature of active sites, which is necessary to understand their role in N2O decomposition as well as the effect of high temperature pretreatment on catalytic properties.
