Enhanced Photoelectrocatalytic Degradation of Dichloroacetate using ZnFe2O4/TiO2 Nanotube Heterojunction Arrays under Visible Light Irradiation

Introduction TiO2 has been extensively used and investigated as an excellent photocatalyst because of its exceptional properties. However, a large intrinsic band gap of TiO2 (3.2 eV for anatase) allows only a small portion of solar spectrum in the ultraviolet light region to be absorbed. Therefore, the effective utilization of visible light has become one of the most important goals in photocatalytic applications. In this work, we report for the first time that the conformal ZnFe2O4/TiO2 nanotube heterojunction arrays (ZnFe2O4/TiO2-NHA) can be synthesized by two-step electrochemical process of anodization and then a novel electrodeposition strategy exhibiting high visible-light photoelectrocatalytic activity for the degradation of dichloroacetate (DCA).
