Synthesis and characterization of OMS-2 catalyst and it application to catalytic oxidation of toluene

Introduction Manganese oxide octahedral molecular sieves (OMS), which is a new class of molecular sieve materials, have been found effective in the total oxidation of CO, benzene, ethanol and ethyl acetate due to the special open tunnel structure and the mixed valences of manganese (1-3). Their catalytic performances are greatly affected by morphology, surface area and amount of defects in the structure which depend on the synthetic route. In this work, cryptomelane-type manganese oxides (OMS-2) are prepared by different synthetic preparations, and tested in catalytic oxidation of toluene.
