Catalytic properties of Pt/Al2O3 catalysts in the aqueous-phase reforming of ethylene glycol: Effect of the phase of Al2O3 supports

Introduction Due to the increasing demand of energy and the continuously rising oil prize the use of renewables as a source for the production of fuel and chemicals has become more and more important during the last few years. The aqueous-phase reforming (APR) process was established by Dumesic and coworkers using platinum based catalysts and mild reaction conditions for the production of hydrogen from of biomass-derived hydrocarbons. There are detailed studies on platinum based catalysts for the APR process of ethylene glycol, but only few is reported about the effect of the phase composition of alumina for this platinum based catalyst. In this study, we report the catalytic performance of ethylene glycol to hydrogen byAPR on Pt-loading catalysts prepared on alumina with γ-, δ- and α-phases, respectively.
