Passive NOx adsorber for cold start emission problem

Introduction A major part of harmful components in automobile exhaust gas is emitted during cold start period – the first few minutes after the engine start, when the catalysts are under the light-off temperature and not yet active. One of the ways of treating the NOx emissions is to use passive NOx adsorber (PNA). It adsorbs the NOx during the cold start, while at higher temperatures the NOx are desorbed from the catalyst surface and reduced on a conventional deNOx catalyst located downstream (e.g., NH3-SCR).
