Surface Properties of TiO2 Nanotube Arrays in Photoelectrocatalytic Splitting of Water

Introduction TiO2 is one of the most promising candidates for a commercial photoelectrode for a photoelectrochemical cell (PEC) for the production of solar-hydrogen. TiO2 nanotube arrays exhibit the elevated photoelectrochemical performance. Surface properties is one of the key functional properties of TiO2-based photoelectrode. Experimental TiO2 nanotube arrays were synthesized by a sonoelectrochemical anodization method using aqueous phosphoric acid and sodium fluoride solution. The anodized titania nanotubular arrays were annealed in 5%(V/V)H2/N2, air and N2 atmosphere at 500℃ for 4h at a heating rate of 5℃/min, respectivity.
