A Novel Heterogeneous Route for Highly Selective Synthesis of Enones from Benzylic Compounds over CrSBA-15 Catalysts
Introduction Enone compounds synthesized by oxidation of benzylic compounds over Cr-based reagents are mainly used in many applications, ranging from agricultural products to pharmaceuticals. However, the use of large amounts of environmentally undesirable chromium reagents and the large volume of solvent require in these procedures. The major problem in these oxidation processes is the formation of various products due to uncontrolled oxidation. To overcome these problems, several enone compounds synthesized over chromium containing heterogeneous catalysts. Although the catalysts give high selectivity of enones, other compounds (e.g., epoxides, alcohols, and alkenes) are also obtained, and complicated processes are needed to separate the products. Therefore, we report a new heterogeneous route for the successful oxidation of benzylic compounds (e.g., tetralin, indane, diphenylmethane, fluorine, ethylbenzene, propylbenzene and n-butylbenzene) to enones with 100% selectivity over mesoporous CrSBA-15 catalysts.
