Research on Effects of FDI on Economic Growth in Eastern Central and Western Regions of China:An Empirical Analysis Based on Panel Data from 1985 to 2008
Since the reform and opening up policy was adopted in China, large FDI has flowed into China and has promoted economic growth of China. However,FDI is not distributed equally in different regions in China.Eastern region has attracted more FDI than central and western regions. In this paper,we explore whether effects of FDI on economic growth is same in different regions of China.Based on the panel data from 1985 to 2008,we establish individual fixed effects model. The results of empirical analysis show that FDI has promoted economic growth of China. However, positive effects of FDI on economic growth of eastern region are much more significant than those of central and western regions. Therefore,Chinese government should formulate corresponding policies to adjust the regional structure of FDI and take some measures to encourage FDI flowing to central and western regions in order to narrow the gap of regional economic development in China.
