A Study of Effect of FDI on Independent Innovation
The paper,based on the economic development stage of thirty nine developing host countries,employs the variable coefficient model of panel data to explore the effect of transnational corporations FDI on the independent innovation,concluding that FDI has the positive effect but not strong and the degree of the effect is increasingly strengthened with the upgrading of host countrys economy,that one unit increasing of FDI causes those nations under the primary,middle and high stages of industrialization the increasing of 0.103,0.111 and 0.123 unit in innovation respectively,that the function of FDI on innovation in recipients lies in its effect on industrial design instead of technology progress,suggesting that the spillovers from FDI are such knowledge as product development and marketing skills included in industrial designing rather than technological innovation.Thus,self-development is the basis of introducing and utilizing FDI and endogenous growth is the prerequisite of reaping from FDIs package of resources.Meanwhile,this paper also finds that in developing host economies sounded regime is in flavor of improving independent innovation and the R&D input is the main driver of innovation but the contribution that human resources make to originality is tiny.Therefore,developing host countries should promote their national economic growth and upgrade the industrial structure,make the reform in regime,increase the input into R&D and education to improve human resources qualifications so that they can develop the full use of the package of knowledge resources from FDI to improve their capability for making independent innovation,and ultimately enhance endogeneity for their national economies.
