Real-time observation of integrin bending/unbending conformational changes on living cells
Integrins are a large family of adhesion molecules broadly expressed on the surface of a wide variety of cells as αβ heterodimers. Binding of integrins to ligands provides not only mechanical anchorage for the cell to another cell or extracellular matrix, but also biological signals bidirectionally across the cell membrane, making integrins prime candidates for mechanosensing molecules.
