Mechanical Instability of Veins Under Internal Pressure
Tortuous veins are often seen in the retina, cerebrum, and human legs. Venous tortuosity may affect blood flow and the wall remodeling process, both of which are associated with venous diseases. It has been shown that tortuous or varicose veins lead to pain, blood clots or ulcers and other syndromes 1, 2. Therefore, it is of clinical interest to unveil the mechanism of vein buckling and tortuosity.
