The Crosstalk between Endothelial Cells and Vascular Smooth Muscle Cells during Low Shear Stress A Proteomic-based Approach
Shear stress, caused by the parallel frictional drag force of blood flow, is a biomechanical force which plays an important role in the control of blood vessels growth and functions 1. Clinical researches had found out that atherosclerotic lesions occur preferentially at vessel branch points, bifurcations and regions of high curvature, which suggest that low and disturbed shear stress is an important inducer for atherogenesis, whereas normal and laminar shear stress is an atheroprotective factor 2.
