Trade,Transportation and Spatial Changes of Chinas Oilseeds Processing Industry
Since the mid-1990s,Chinas vegetable oil industry has been growing drastically as well as spatial structural has been changing considerably.The characteristics of its location and the movement of oilseeds processing sector are summaried in this paper.Empirical models are developed and estimated to identify economic determinants of oilseeds processing establishment growth between 1995 and 2009.We show that signification agglomeration diseconomies exist at province level.Seaport, market accession and agglomeration diseconomies paly important roles in determining spatial structure of Chinas vegetable oil industry between 1995 and 2009.We also show that the ability of attracting oilseeds processor to create local employment opportunities and market outlet for farmers varies considerably across provinces.
