MULTI-DIMENSIONAL TYPOLOGY FOR ENTREPRENEURIAL CAREER ROLE MODELS

Potential and nascent entrepreneurs study the journey of successful entrepreneurs - as role models – those have experienced similar situations and are highly respected. This paper provides case studies and content analysis of 30 successful entrepreneurs to derive various types of role models on entrepreneurial career, and the characteristics of each role model type are presented. An entrepreneur’s career development process follows four steps of i) study, ii) start–up, iii) success, and iv) significance. Entrepreneurs’ role models are categorized looking into the entrepreneur’s career development process. A total of 16 role model types are presented by identifying 2 representative characteristics for each step. The characteristics of each derived role model type are also presented. This typology scheme on entrepreneurs can be helpful for potential and nascent entrepreneurs in finding their appropriate role model types and in focusing their efforts to maximize strengths and overcome weaknesses of each type.
