THE EMPIRICAL RESEARCH FRAME OF THE RELATIONSHIP OF LEADER’S PERSPECTIVE TAKING AND TEAM COHESION IN RESEARCH TEAMS: THE MEDIATING EFFECT OF LMX

The research team is an important organizational form of innovation. This paper studies the mechanism of leader’s perspective taking within research teams. To set the context for this study, the concept of perspective taking of research team leaders and its operationalization is discussed. Then the paper reviews some theories and proposes hypotheses. Finally, this study surveys 150 research teams of a China 211 university so that to build a theoretical frame for the empirical research of the relationship between the leader’s perspective taking and team cohesion with a mediator of leader-member exchange, indicating that research team leaders should enhance perspective taking skills and hence increase LMX quality and strengthen team cohesion.
