Large SWRO Operational Feedback in the Middle East: a Guiding Tool to World Innovation in SWRO Technology
Middle East has not been fertile ground for SeaWater Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) technology for long time and the main reason of this is the challenge of the seawater quality. Nowadays SWRO is being widely implemented all over the world (61.1% installed capacity worldwide as per Water Desalination report, IDA Desalination Yearbook 2009-2010) and recently also in the Middle East where the market share of SWRO technology is continuously increasing. Due to the extremely challenging seawater conditions the operational feedback from seawater plant operating in Middle East, particularly in the Gulf region, represents a very useful design feedback to further optimize concept in SWRO design. This paper discusses the major design criteria adopted in the Middle East SWRO installation intending to review and compare them. This comparison between SWRO desalination plant from economical and technical point of view will give the possibility to understand the optimal SWRO design and from this operation feedback on project will be possible to develop and implement the new SWRO plant worldwide.
