Evaluation of Isobaric Energy Recovery Devices
During the last 10 years, there has been a dramatic increase in the use of the reverse osmosis (RO) process in desalination plants. One of the main contributing factors is the lower energy cost of RO versus MSF plants. This has been made possible by the integration of high efficiency, isobaric energy recovery system (ERS). Not all ERSs are the same, however, so how do you determine which type is the fight type for you plant? From a business perspective, evaluating the life cycle cost of the various ERS’s being considered is the most prudent means of doing so The purpose of this paper is to provide a methodology that engineering contractors can use to evaluate ERS’s.
