Ceramic membranes have higher clean water permeability, higher backwash velocity, more extreme conditions in chemical cleaning and higher lifetime compared to polymeric membranes. The square meter price of ceramic membranes is higher compared to the price of polymeric membranes. But if higher fluxes are applied the water production costs with ceramic membranes can be compared with the water production
