Comparative Study on Extraction Methods of Microbial Lipids
INTRODUCTION Phospholipid fatty acid (PLFA) is the essential component of membrane lipids of living microorganisms (bacteria, eukarya, archaea). It represents the survival part of the community. Recently, the membrane analysis is becoming an increasingly important study on the microbial biomass and the structure of the community in the samples such as sediments, water, or even humus. The microorganisms exist rarely as monocultures but as communities. PLFA analysis can provide information on a variety of microbial characteristics, such as biomass, physiology, taxonomic and functional identity, and overall community composition.
