Geobacillus sp. Iso 5, a Novel Amylase-Producing Thermophile from Thermal Springs in Konkan Region of Southern India

INTRODUCTION Thermal environments such as hot springs are ideal resources for the investigation on ecosystems related to the life origin and evolution in the earth history. The universal ancestor, thermophile, from these ecological niches gains potential interest in adaptativity and applicability. Its nature of adaptation and stabilization at elevated range of temperature attains the nature of biological system and molecules in developing and evolving during early primordial days of the earth (Elnasser et al., 2007). To date, ten geobacillus species are reported and almost all embrace the 5th genetic group. All the species of this genus are phylogenetic related and similar in 16s rRNA gene (96.5%).
