Investigation of Microorganisms in Bamboo Retting System

Currently, bamboo fiber offers great potential in biomedical application due to its particular and natural functions of anti bacteria, anti-ultraviolet, ammonia and ill-smelling removing as well as its green and biodegradable properties. In this work, microorganisms from retting liquid were investigated with the purpose to find the effective strains contributing to bamboo degumming. Five strains, with great potential to produce high xylanase or pectinase activity and low cellulase activity, were finally chosen as the ideal strains benefit for degumming. These strains were identified to be Bacillus sp., Acinetobacter sp., Acremonium strictum genogroup Ⅲ and Penicillium sp. with 16S ribosomal DNA (rDNA)based techniques. This work contributes to the development of microbial retting in bamboo processing.
