Research of Improving Starch Sponges Performance by Grafted Modification

Graft copolymer of starch is a new type of green materials with biodegradability and strong hydrophilic group. Since raft copolymer of starch has characteristics of high water absorption, good water retention and so on. It is mainly used in fields like sanitary products, agriculture, forestry, horticulture, adsorption separation, food packaging, artificial intelligence materials, sensitive materials and cosmetics. The graft copolymerization of polyacrylamide(PAM) and polyacrylic acid (PAA) onto cassava starch was studied in this paper. The casting/plyopholization technology has been developed to fabricate grafted starch sponges. Formability, machanical properties and water absorption of grafted starch sponges were also been studied in this paper. The result showed that formability, machanical properties and water absorption rate of modified starch sponges have been up-graded by grafted copolymerization, water absorptive capacity even been multiplied.
