Synthesis and Permeabilities of Novel Amphiphilic Polymer Conetworks Based on Poly(N-vinylpyrrolidone) and Polydimethylsiloxane

Amphiphilic polymer conetworks (APCNs) is a new type of two-component networks of covalently intercom nected hydrophilic/hydrophobic (HI/HO) phases of cocontinuous morphology This paper describes a strategy for the synthesis of a novel amphiphilic polymer of poly(Nvinylpyrrolidone) main-chains carrying polydimethylsiloxane branches fitted with terminal vinylsilyl groups. The vinylsilyl groups were crosslinked by hydrosilation with polyhydrosiloxanes to the target APCNs. The effect of key experimental parameters, i.e. the concentration of crosslinker and catalyst, on synthesis was studied. We also studied the permeabilities of glucose, bovine serum albumin, inulin through the PVP/PMHS/PDMS membrane. Glucose and inulin passes through the APCNs, while bovine serum albumin is blocked.
