Surface Modification of PAN Fibers via Hydrolysis as Absorbent Fibrous Materials
In this paper the hydrolysis properties of PAN fibers were investigated with an aim to recycle the waste PAN fibers as a kind of absorbent fibrous materials. The functional groups, i.e. carboxyl, amide and nitrile of the hydrolyzed PAN fibers were analyzed by means of Micro-ATR. The relationship between the content of functional groups of the the hydrolyzed PAN fibers and the absorbent abilities of water were investigated. As a result, the relationship between the hydrolysis condtions and the absorbent properties of the hydrolyzed PAN fibers is found and the mechanism is anlyzed as well.
