Preparation and Characterization of Polypropylene-g-N, N-Diallylmelamine

The modified polypropylene (PP) was prepared by reactive extrusion in a twin-screw extruder, in which dicumyl peroxide (DCP) and N, N-Diallylmelamine (DAM) were used as initiator and functional monomer, respectively. The chemical structure, melt flow properties and thermodynamic properties of the obtained PP-g-DAM were characterized by nitrogen analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), gel analysis, melt flow index (MFI), wide angle X-ray diffraction (WXRD), differential scanning calorimetric (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), respectively. The result showed that the radical grafting copolymerization took place and the degradation accompanied with the grafting, reaction. Moreover, the crystallization temperatures and the degradation temperatures of the modified PPs were higher than those of virgin PP.
