Preparation of Anion lon Exchange Fiber Based on Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) and Adsorption Property for Fluoride and lodide

In this work, a new polyamine-type ion exchange fiber (IEF) based on polyacrylonitrile (PAN) with higher exchange capacities was prepared by crosslinking through hydrazine hydrate, followed reacting with diethylene triamine. The structures of the IEF were characterized by the means of IR spectrum, SEM and DMA. The mechanics performance of the IEF was investigated using the analysis of strength test. After cross linking, the surface of PAN fiber becomes rougher and the strength of single fiber increased. Amination for fiber lead to the decreasing of fiber strength due to the formation of structure flow in the fiber. The anion IEF was prepared based on amination PAN by chelating with Fe3 + in solution, which was used to adsorb fluoride and iodide ions from aqueous solutions. The results showed that the fibrous sorbent has high adsorption capacity for fluoride ion and iodide ion. The maximum adsorption capacities for F- ion and I- ion were 30.2 mg/g and 321.2 mg/g respectively under the optimum pH value of 6.0 at the room temperature. Freundlich model can simulate the adsorption equilibrium in the studied concentration range. Fluoride ion and iodide ion adsorbed on the PAN fiber could be easily desorbed by Al(NO3)3 and NaOH. After regeneration, the PAN IEF still has the well adsorption property and can be used repeatedly.
