Fabrication and Tensile Properties of Co-woven-knitted Fabric

A method of weaving a novel co-woven-knitted (CWK) structure for composite reinforcement has been proposed, which combine weaving and knitting technologies including shedding, inserting while knitting and unshedding. To demonstrate the validity of the weaving method prediction, the CWK fabric was successfully woven with high strength and modulus fiber yarns after the co-woven-knitted machine was modified from the V-bed flat knitting machine. Furthermore, the tensile properties of the CWK fabric was also presented and discussed. These provided a basis for the establishment of process windows for the CWK fabric and for the application of the CWK reinforced composites, such as medical products with medical yarns.
