Fabrication of Textile with Fragrance and Healthcare Function Based on Sol-gel Technology

Lavender essence was incorporated into silica sol by sol-gel technology using tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) as silica precursor and (γ-Glycidyloxypropyl)-trimethoxysilane (GPTMS) as modifier, and textile (cotton fabric) was treated using the as obtained silica sol by pad-dry-cure method to obtain long-term fragrance and healthcare effects. In spite of 15 washing cycles, the treated fabric still retains the fragrance. The surface morphology of the treated cotton fabric was analyzed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and scanning probe microscope (SPM). The strength and handle tests of the treated fabric also show no negative effects from the treatment on the fabric.
