Design of Automatic Control System for Arc Furnace

There are a range of issues during the smelting process of the submerged arc furnace, such as a large amount of maintenance, etc. In order to solve these problems, a Fuzzy PID Control System based on PLC was designed. The main hardware configuration, PLC program structure, were described in this paper. According to the on-site process requirements, a bumpless switching function from manual to automatic was achieved. The disadvantages of inaccurate and lags were avoided in the case of manual operation, and the regulation times of electrodes was reduced. Thereby, the quality and output of the product were all enhanced. The experiment performance data indicated that the Fuzzy PID Control System based on PLC was reliable, easy to operate, and didnt require a large amount of maintenance.
