One Axis Sun-Tracking System with Auto-Test and -Control
A one-axis east-west oriented sun-tracking system with auto-test and -control while the north-south directed tracing operated by manual adjustment instead of electronic technique was designed. The azimuth-elevation mechanism was adopted for aiming the plate photovoltaic frame towards the sun. A solar cell sensor due to photo-current being proportional to sunlight irradiance was utilized to auto-test the sun status, the resultant signals were fed to an electromechanical auto-controller which driven a stepping motor to rotate the frame via a speedreduction gearbox. A photo-switch and a clocktrigger-switch were used to prevent the system idling in overcast or night.
