Cradle-to-Gate Embodied Energy of Products

In recent years the energy efficiency of product and processes has been under investigation due to the increased cost and the close relation between energy and eco-efficiency.In this context,it is important to investigate the energy efficiency not only during the usage stage, but the whole embodied energy in order to understand the energy efficiency of a product. However, the embodied energy during the usage and End of Life stages depend merely on the variation of customers behavioum such as the usage intensity and maintenance system.Manufacturers are likely to manage the embodied energy during the cradle-to-gate such as the suppliers selection, transportation involved and the manufacturing process. Therefore, this paper presents the investigation of a cradle-to-gate embodied energy analysis of products.Different supply chain scenarios are used to assess the embodied energy and consequently the energy efficiency of a finished product.
