Evaluating Life Cycle Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Energy consumption of Al Intensive Vehicle in China

This article describes life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology and the general modelling assumptions used to evaluate the impact of aluminum (Al) intensive vehicle on life cycle GHG emissions and energy consumption.Compared with Europe and North America, China has the highest greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from primary Al electrolysis process due to Chinese energy mix that is mainly based on coal fired. The Al intensive vehicle can reduce GHG emissions and energy consumption by approximately 4.0% compared to the conventional vehicle in China.A sensitive analysis is conducted to study the effect of the recycled Al on the final results.
