Lifecycle Impact Reduction and Energy Savings through Light Weight Eco-Design of Machine Tools
The energy consumption of machine tools dominates their ecological impact and is a key component of the total energy required for the manufactudng of products. In addition to building machines from efficient com portents, one possible strategy to minimise energy consumption is to reduce the moving masses to lower the peak and basic power demand. As light weight design taken to the extreme leads to reduced stiffness and damping,we present a holistic concept that comprises the mechanical and electrical systems.control and manufacturing process to achieve enemy savings through radical moving mass reduction.
