Digital manufacturing supporting integrated improvement of products and production systems

摘要：

In this paper the possibilities of digital manufacturing are discussed in the area of product and production improvement.The focus is on the process from ideas to successful solution of where products and production interact.For this manner a production system structure，aiming to integrate product and production activities，is explained.The key issues are the improvement activities divided into continuous， incremental，and radical improvement by the means of digital manufacturing.Additionally，several ongoing research projects in the area of competitive and sustainable manufacturing are discussed on how they contribute to the improvement of products and production systems discussed in this paper.
