Review and Future of Sustainable Manufacturing
Current expanding economic activities have been accompanied by growing concerns about climate change, energy security and scarcity of natural resources. The topics related to sustainable manufacturing are becoming very important issues for governments and industries worldwide. What is envisioned as sustainable manufactunng and how that relates to the environmental, energy, and social issues? In order to answer the two questions, the authors review the development of sustainable manufacturing from the very beginning, summarize the current research status in this area, and identify how the current sustainable manufacturing technologies meet the requirement of =as the creation of manufactured products that use processes that are non-polluting, conserve energy and natural resources, and are economically sound and safe for employees, communities, and consumers 1. Finally, the future trend of the research on sustainable manufacturing will also be discussed.
