Polygonal Model based Vertex Regeneration Method for Refurbishment of Worn Parts
Refurbishment of worn parts is a key technique in remanufacturing engineering. It is also a popular research topic in the domain of sustainable manufacturing. To tackle the difncult problem of obtaining a reference model for repair of worn parts, this paper proposes a novel vertex regeneration method based on the many knot spline interpolation algorithm. The algorithm guarantees the interpolation passes through all the control points instead of approximating them,SO that the vertices regenerated do not alter the shape of the un-worn area of the part.Based on the algorithms proposed,a surface repair system is developed through Visual C++6.0.The system accepts the worn part as a digitised polygonal model and regenerates the original geometry of the part which is used as a reference model for precision repair.Several examples of worn parts are presented to illustrate the feasibility of the method. Finally, conclusions are drawn and further research work is discussed.
