Utilizing Quality Function Deployment to Evaluate and Design Wastewater Treatment Systems

Much of the worlds population lacks services to meet basic human needs such as wastewater treatment. Many development projects built to meet these needs have been abandoned by users. This is due,in part, to the failure of service systems to satisfy user preferences spanning but not limited to cultural, knowledge, and usability issues.Quality function deployment (QFD) is a design tool that is often used to create products that satisfy customer expectations.QFD is utilized is this case to innovate solutions that improve user satisfaction with a novelproduct, wastewater treatment systems in rural Bolivia or 2 of the 3 systems considered, utilizing QFD allowed for the innovation of design improvements that improved upon the systems original technical merits or user satisfaction.
