Relationship between Substorm activity and the Dayside Magnetopause Location
We examined the effect of magnetopause dayside location of earth on the generation of magnetospheric substorm. For this purpose we investigated the correlation between the AL/AE index (showing substorm activity) and magnetopause standard offdistance R0 (showing the dayside magnetopause location). For the analysis we used the upstream solar wind and IMF data coming from OMNI database on 2004, and simultaneously, geomagnetic activity indices were available. Based on the Chao model, we obtained an important result: the correlation between AL/AE index and magnetopause standard offdistance R0 is subsistent obviously when substorms occur. Especially, the correlation between AE index and R0 when substorms with all storms occurred is better than the correlation when substorms without storms occurred.
