Can we use Transverse Doppler Effect to detect vertical wind speed?
This article discussed weather we can use the Transverse Doppler Effect (TDE) to detect vertical wind speed under the background of special theory of relativity. The frequency deviation caused by the vertical wind is second power of β (wind speed v over light speed c) while the deviation caused by the wind along the line of sight is first power of β. It is very difficult to detect the vertical wind speed by using the TDE directly.
