Electron Spin Resonance in a Single Crystal of Ni(C2HSN2)2NO2(CIO4)
We present the electron spin resonance (ESR) study of the magnetic transitions occurring between the excited states and the ground state for a single crystal of Ni(C2H8N2)2NO2(CIO4) at a frequency of 100 GHz and at a temperature of 1.5K. We have calculated that the zero-field splitting parameters D and E, as well as g-values of the 3A2 ground state for d8 impurity ions in an orthorhombic distorted octahedral field. The analytical expressions connecting the spinHamiltonian parameters with the crystal-field parameters are obtained based on the perturbation theory. The results show that the experimental data for Ni(C2H8N2)2NO2(CIO4) can be explained when taking into account for both the spin-orbit coupling and the influence of all the excited states on the ground state.
