Application of Discrete Wavelet Transform for Signal Processing of Weight-in-Motion System
A new signal process method based on discrete wavelet transform to enhance the accuracy of a fiberoptic Weight-In-Motion (WIM) system is presented in this paper. The fiber-optic WIM system setup is demonstrated and the characteristics of the axle weight signal are analyzed. The algorithm of the discrete wavelet transformation and its implementation is discussed in detail. Through multiscale decomposition and reconstruction, as well as wavelet de-noising, classification and feature extraction from the vibration signals is realized. Finally, the field experiments are conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed method. Experimental results show that using discrete wavelet transform as a methodology to analyses the WIM output signals is effective.
