Marine Energy in the UK-Current Status and Future Perspectives

Technology Progress The UK is well advanced in marine energy development. From pioneering beginnings at the University of Edinburgh in the 1980s, in more recent years the technology has progress to the stage where there are now far-shore, near-shore and shoreline wave energy converters and single-, double-rotor and open-flow tidal current energy converters operating in UK waters, connected to and supplying electricity to the national grid. Limpet, Power buoy, Oyster and Pelamis are in the seas as the leading full-scale wave energy converters, and Sea flow, Open Hydro and Sea Gen are vanguard deployments in energetic tidal channels.
