An Innovative Approach for Research-Informed Product Design Teaching using Wave energy Generation Case Study

Research informed teaching is becoming an important method for teaching students at Universities.It is believed that students learn best in a research informed environment taught by people working at the forefront of their research area.This paper describes an innovative approach for integrating research work and industrial collaboration at Nottingham Trent University with Product design classes to develop product and prototypes for wave energy generation products.The results indicate that students have developed the skills and knowledge on how to undertake research and develop an innovative solution to meet the research problem integrating many skills and knowledge including CAD/CAM,prototyping,modular design, electronics and instrumentation.
