Computational engineering in design and development of electrohydraulic valves

Innovative electrohydraulic valves require an interdisciplinary collaboration between the fields of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and information technology during the development process. The classical development method is based upon the separate development of subsystems and the optimization of the complete valve in the interaction of prototype engineering and adaption of the design. In the case of complex electrohydraulic systems, this requires the typical high effort of development time and development costs. A considerable more efficient method today is the computer based development by means of a holistic model based development approach. ... The paper describes a methodology of valve development by consequent use of holistic simulation models. The focus here is the determination of the model parameters by means of field computation programs. The holistic valve model developed this way is used to show the possibilities to improve the stability of a pilot operated pressure relief valve.
