The efficiency analysis of an electric motor-pump with port-plate centrifugal pump
A port-plate centrifugal pump as the auxiliary pump for main pump is developed to improve the suction performance of the main pump in the electric motor pump. The effects of the structural parameters of the port-plate centrifugal pump on the pressure field of its outlet and its efficiency are investigated by CFD approach. The CFD results show that the port-plate centrifugal pump has the obvious effects on improving the inlet pressure of the main pump and its maximum power consumption is below 45 W which is only about 0.41 percent of the rated power of the electric motor pump. Based on the Newtons law of viscosity, the power consumption due to the viscous load effect in the gap between rotor and stator in electric motor pump is evaluated, the results shows that the viscous load effect in the gap can lower the efficiency especially when the length of gap is very small and the oil viscosity is large.
