Positioning of a spring-loaded pneumatic cylinder with a pressure controller
In principle, positioning of a single acting springloaded pneumatic cylinder is possible without position sensor by controlling the pressure of the cylinder. In this paper positioning of a springloaded pneumatic cylinder with pressure control is studied experimentally. The position of the cylinder is estimated based on the pressure level of the system. There are some basic problems in this kind of pressure control application: The needed force and the controlled volume change in the same time as a function of desired positions. It is shown that simple open loop control without any sensor can be used and reasonable good performance is achieved. Possibilities and limitations are discussed.
