Research on vortex cup with annular flat skirt

A new pneumatic non-contacting handling approach named vortex levitation has been introduced by the authors. Vortex levitation uses a swirling air flow generator called vortex cup to cause a lifting force, and thereby is able to handle a work piece out of contact with it. In this paper, an auxiliary annular flat skirt is designed empirically on the surrounding of the vortex cup, and its validity to restrain the work piece from oscillating is proven theoretically and experimentally.
