Energy recovery and management in pressure coupled hydraulic hybrid bus using new hydraulic transformer and clean diesel combustion engine
The primary focus of this paper is the integration of new hydraulic transformer and hydraulic pump/motor that works with a clean diesel combustion engine (CDC) which decreases NOx emissions for higher fuel economy, improves vehicle acceleration among others. The transformer uses an adjustable broad angle range valve plate to convert pressures unlike the (IHT). Hydraulic pump/motor works in four quadrant modes and switches between pumping and driving modes, recovers lost deceleration energy, reuse it during next acceleration. The research is carried out as a result of global market competition and environmental protection forces which demands for aggressive improvement of fuel economy in all manner of vehicles for global warming and fuel economy improvement. The system is modeled using MATLAB/SIMULINK. The use of both technology concepts is projected to obviously improve the system fuel economy and the acceleration/deceleration performances of the vehicle.
